Ever wondered what you're really gaining from learning an instrument? Are you really just becoming more musical, or is there more to it??
Well the good news is there are plentiful non-musical benefits to learning an instrument, but today I'm going to be telling you just about 3 of them.
1: Finesse those fine motor skills
When you learning an instrument, particularly stringed instruments like the violin, guitar or cello, the specific movements you make every time you play a note strengthens those important connections in your primary motor cortex, the part of your brain that lets us move around.
Learning the #violin in particular, especially from a young age, strengthens your fine motor skills and will allow you to be able to make fidelly finger movements when you're older!
2: Music improves your memory
When you learn an instrument, you are always memorising passages of music, new chords and lyrics. This helps improve your working memory, which is responsible for holding and manipulating information in your mind. This skill is helpful in so many other subjects, such as maths. So every week when you come to your #music lesson, you're also brain training for memory!
3: Why wouldn't you want to be happier??
Learning an instrument is also amazing for your #mentalhealth. When you are focusing so hard on learning new musical skills, the many stressors that normally fill our day are not focused on.
Learning an instrument is also highly rewarding, so every time you nail a new part or play a new chord perfectly, dopamine is released, making you feel happy and really proud of your hard work! If you practice your instrument every day, this hit of dopamine becomes part of your daily routine, and has a positive affect on your overall well being!
So why not take up music lessons??
